The two were identified as Alexanda Kotey and El Shafee Elsheikh.

Emwazi is also believed to have killed another British captive, Alan Henning, and the American journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff, while the U.S. government has attributed 27 beheadings to the group.

Alexanda Kotey and El Shafee ElSheikh were detained by Kurdish forces in Syria and have reportedly revealed "valuable information" on the IS leadership and structure.

The Times said group's ringleader, ringleader, Mohammed Emwazi, known as "Jihadi John", was killed in an airstrike in 2015 in Syria.

The last two men believed to be responsible for the executions of several western hostages have been captured by US-backed forces in Syria.

They and fellow Londoners - Mohammed Emwazi, dubbed Jihadi John, and Aine Davis - were nicknamed "the Beatles" due to their British accents.

The men, who grew up in Britain before traveling to Syria to fight with Islamist militants, are suspected "in the detention, exploitation, and execution of Western detainees", one official said, who like others spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive counterterrorism operations.

The two men are believed to have links to Mohammed Emwazi, a Briton known as "Jihadi John". Aine Davis, another member of the gang, was captured in Turkey past year.

Kurdish Syrian fighters captured two British militants suspected of carrying out executions and torturing detainees for the Islamic State (IS) group, the New York Times reported on Thursday, citing unidentified USA officials.

Their capture was first reported by the New York Times, who noted that American officials had wanted to keep the news secret. The 47-year-old taxi driver was captured in December while delivering food and supplies to Syrian refugees and was murdered by Islamic State (IS) militants in Syria.
