Tom Hardy in first Venom teaser trailer

Tom Hardy plays the journalist who becomes the host to the alien symbiote, Venom. For fans of the Venom character and comics, an R-rating seems absolutely in-line with the unpredictably menacing and bloodthirsty symbiote. Now the first teaser trailer for the movie has been shared.

When Sony announced they would be making a Marvel Venom spin-off movie supposedly in the same universe as Spider-man: Homecoming, fans were rightly nervous.

The teaser trailer offered little information in regards to plot, but did hint that the film is set in San Francisco, and offered a glimpse at Michelle Williams as Ann Weying. Brock narrates the trailer, saying, "Everyone's got their thing". The best we get is Brock freaking out as the first transformation begins. Maybe it's a breakup. Hello?" wrote one fan, while another said, "How can you tease the movie without showing the character?

Showcasing an American accent the 40-year-old actor opens the voiceover with: "You used to be one thing, now you're something else". "The cast is too good for me to take dump on this film I am seeing some already are".

Instead, this Venom preview was lacking in bite, which is to say that Sony's long-anticipated teaser didn't include a single shot of the CG-powered symbiote.

Ruben Fleischer is directing the film, based on a script by Scott Rosenberg ("Jumanji") and Jeff Pinkner ("The Dark Tower"). Is Tom Hardy going to out Venom Topher Grace? . The film isn't released until 4 October 2018 in Australia (and 5 October in the US), so there's plenty of time for the big reveal.
