Tommy Wiseau wants to play the Joker

Joaquin Phoenix The Joker

Joaquin Phoenix The Joker

Warner Bros and DC are now in the initial stages of the spinoff which will tell the origin story of The Joker.

This would mean that he'll follow in the footsteps of Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger, and Jared Leto when it comes to playing the DC villain on the big screen.

Nonetheless, as of this writing, Warner Bros has not yet issued an official statement to confirm the veracity of the reports saying Phoenix will play the Joker in the Clown Prince's origin story.

Joaquin Phoenix is reportedly in talks to play the Joker in an upcoming origin film focusing on the infamous DC Comics super villain.

He will reprise in the Suicide Squad sequel and the Harley Quinn spinoff.

If he gets the part, this will be the first time Phoenix has starred as a comic book character.

Phoenix has been the top choice to take on other superhero roles before, but has been resistant to joining any major studio blockbuster.

While studio negotiations haven't started yet, according to Variety, Phoenix was approached by Phillips late a year ago and early talks have already begun. He was asked by Marvel to play the Hulk in The Avengers and was approached again for the titular role of Doctor Strange.

Phoenix has been considered for another villainous DC role in the past: Lex Luthor in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice", but passed on that role, which ultimately went to Jesse Eisenberg.

Legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese is said to be attached as producer to the movie, which will lend inspiration from his films "Taxi Driver" and "Raging Bull", both of which are dark masterpieces, reported.

"The movie would fall under a yet-to-be-announced new banner of DC Comics", Says Variety, "which would give the studio the opportunity to expand the canon of the iconic comic-book characters with unique story angles that aren't included in its current cinematic universe".
