Thieves have stolen treasures belonging to the Swedish royal family in a brazen heist on a cathedral, before escaping by motorboat. No one was arrested. In the statement, police described the motorboat as a small open boat, although it was uncertain what colour the boat was. "We have some different information about how exactly the boat looked", Thomas explained.

Swedish police said the stolen crown jewels are from the 1600s and were part of the funeral regalia of King Charles IX and his wife Queen Christina. "We are not examining all the tips we receive ..."

Police are still looking for the suspects as of Wednesday morning, the AP reported. Police said the thieves could have fled further on jet skis, adding it was only a theory.

"The alarm went off when the burglars smashed the security glass and stole the artifacts", Catharina Frojd, a spokeswoman for the 14th-century Strangnas cathedral, told The Associated Press. Due to their significance to the Royal Family, the items are essentially impossible to sell. They were eventually found and returned to the cathedral.

"What usually happens with this type of object is that they are recovered sooner or later, because there are very few people who are prepared to handle such items", spokesman Agnevik was quoted as saying by Swedish media on Tuesday.

"The score is 1-0 for them right now, but we don't know what it will be like tomorrow", Agnevik said.

Unfortunately, this isn't the first time Sweden's royal jewels have come under attack.

This heist comes just six years after $120,000 in jewels were stolen from Sweden's current royal family.
