The charges can carry a life sentence.

However, evacuations were ordered for communities near a new fire in the Fall River Mills area, about 70 miles northeast of Redding.

Hundreds of firefighters are desperately fighting to stop the Holy Fire engulfing a lakeside community near Los Angeles and the situation has been described as 'like a warzone'.

Clark refused to leave his jail cell Thursday, so his arraignment was postponed until Friday.
