To understand how big the screens are on the 2018 crop of new iPhones, I brought a few visual aides to Apple's grand unveiling Wednesday at its Silicon Valley headquarters. The cheapest version of the iPhone Xs with the most limited amount of storage (64 GB) will cost $999, while the Xs Max's base price starts at $1,099. Apple used older LCD screen technology and aluminum, rather than stainless steel, edges. With the most expensive iPhone XS Max costing £1449, that might seem a little unfair on Apple's part.

Will iPhone X owners upgrade to the massive iPhone XS Max?

It's pronounced "iPhone 10 ess". In real time, the processor in the iPhone instantly detects and displays performance metrics-the speed of the ball as it leaves the player's hand, the release angle of each shot, even the position of the player's legs.

Is Bigger Better? The iPhone X will have exactly the same size body and 5.8-inch display as the iPhone X introduced past year. If the leak is anything to go by you'll be able to buy the iPhone XR in black, white, red, yellow, coral, and blue. While its removal can be seen as penny pinching (and with Apple you never know), the actual use that adapter got is of suspect, considering most people just use the bundled EarPods or possibly get the AirPods.

One of the most interesting new features Apple announced had to do with its new iPhone cameras.

Apple revealed a variety of new products including its three new iPhones and watch at an event on Wednesday at its headquarters in Cupertino, California. There's also a $749 Xr model, with an LED screen and a single-lens rear camera, instead of the dual lenses of the more costly models. Pre-orders begin on October 19, and the phone will ship on October 26.

During Apple's event last September, despite the iPhone's dramatic redesign, the standout announcement for me were the changes to the Apple Watch.

Google may find comfort in the fact that Apple's new "big" flagship phone is giving them $350 of headroom compared to the price of last year's Pixel 2 XL, but they'd be embarrassingly naive to think the new 3 XL is a direct competitor to the iPhone Xs Max. Certainly, games created to tap into the newly-more-potent GPU looked visually better than earlier iOS titles, though I suspect the extra turn of speed will be most valued in multitasking and combating the inevitable slowdown over time that all smartphones seem to suffer. Upgrades like wireless charging and an apparently machine learning-powered dual selfie camera setup are nice, but they aren't the kinds of things that will make the Pixels stand out in a crowd. Apple also looks to have improved the edge detection to cope with wavy hair, although we'll need to look into this closer when we get our review devices. It's a six-core CPU, and uses a new, eight-core Neural Engine to power the machine learning systems on the iPhone XR that can process up to five trillion (yep) operations per second.

Speaking of which, let's talk about the not-so-headline-grabbing iPhone XR.
