But both trips were cut short due to the snow and slush on the streets.

The Prime Minister's spokesperson accused the Russian state of manufacturing "lies and blatant fabrications" that "are an insult to the public's intelligence".

And British journalists have been mocking the story on Twitter, highlighting the improbability of the pair's itinerary and route if they were truly tourists.

The two men Britain has accused in the nerve-agent poisoning of a former Russian spy and his daughter claimed Thursday they were merely tourists in the area where the incident occurred. But Vladimir Putin has denied that these men had anything to do with the poisoning and that they're in any way attached to the Kremlin.

The two men were charged in absentia last week in the UK.

The two said that they had gone to the British city of Salisbury to see its famous religious center, Salisbury Cathedral.

Asked about apparent inconsistencies in the two men's story, 44-year-old Muscovite Ivan Raspopov joked: "You know, Russian tourists often become rather unusual in the West". We're ordinary businessmen trying to make it in the fitness industry.

He claimed his life had been turned "upside down" and added: "We're afraid of going out, we fear for ourselves, our lives and lives of our loved ones".

British police say the first trip was made to stake out the city in advance of the attack on the 4th. They later recovered but two apparent bystanders, Dawn Sturgess and Charlie Rowley, became sick after coming into contact with the discarded container used in the attack.

British investigators say the poison was transported in a fake perfume bottle.

The full unedited interview still hasn't been published online but the RT anchors addressed the obvious question of why these two men would approach RT, a cable network whose audience is primarily people outside of Russian Federation.

They are thought to have been using the names as aliases and are about 40.

Ruslan Boshirov and Alexander Petrov on Thursday made their first public appearance in an interview with the Kremlin-funded RT channel. When you go through customs, they check all your belongings.

"The police have set out very clearly the evidence against these two men, they are wanted men and we have taken all steps to ensure they are apprehended and brought to justice in the United Kingdom if they ever again step foot outside of Russian Federation", he added.

When asked why they were in Salisbury, the men said: "Our friends had been suggesting for a long time we visit this wonderful town". They then went straight to the airport and flew home, hours after the Skripals were found unconscious on a bench.

The most glaring issue with their story is that they have not been quizzed on why traces of Novichok were found in their hotel room. They returned the next day to see the sights. Leaving Salisbury at approximately 4.10pm and arriving in Bow at approximately 8.05 pm.

Boshirov also claimed snowy weather had prevented them from visiting Stonehenge, but a spokesman for bus operator Salisbury Reds told Mail Online that tour buses which people can catch from outside the station were running "as normal on Sunday 4 March".

"Perhaps we did pass by Skripal's house, but we don't know where it is", said Boshirov.

They flew from Moscow to London on Friday, March 2.
