Verizon 5G Home service coming next month

For Verizon customers in certain cities (Houston, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, Sacramento) the 5G river starts flowing this week, with online orders for 5G starting now and service going live on October 1.

Branded as Verizon 5G Home, the broadband internet service will initially be limited to Houston, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, and Sacramento.

How much will it cost? Existing Verizon wireless customers can expect to pay $50 a month for the service; others will pay $70. Taxes and fees are included in that rate, and there's no annual contract. 5G Home is a product that Verizon is going to be offering - and it goes up for pre-order this Thursday - which will allow customers to take advantage of this 5G network in those cities. There are no data caps with Verizon 5G Home.

You've likely heard the term a lot recently, but what is 5G?

TV customers will get free Apple TV devices and Google's YouTube TV on Roku boxes for streaming video services.

Verizon said its 300Mbps to 1Gbps download speeds are achieved with "deep fiber resources throughout the network" and "a large deployment of small cells".

Thanks to improved speeds and less latency, 5G will be required to kickstart many emerging technologies to the next level, powering self-driving cars, for example, or connecting gamers in the increasingly demanding esports market.

Verizon will be the first internet service provider to offer a 5G home internet service.

Verizon in the U.S. has unveiled Verizon 5G Home, which it calls a world-first.

Verizon said it will expand its coverage area for Verizon 5G Home once it can install the new standards-compliant equipment from vendors.

"5G is here", Verizon CEO Hans Vestberg said on Tuesday afternoon.

Verizon is opening four new labs in the United States to accelerate the development of 5G use cases and experiences. MWC Americas, which starts today, is set to be an orgy of competing 5G firsts and who's to say that might not get a bit heated as attendees spill out into the LA bars.
