As an undergraduate student at Yale, Brett M. Kavanaugh was involved in an altercation at a local bar during which he was accused of throwing ice on another patron, according to a police report.

President Donald Trump says he'd be fine with the Federal Bureau of Investigation interviewing Kavanaugh as it investigates allegations of sexual misconduct against him.

According to a New York Times report, Brett Kavanaugh, coming from a UB40 concert, got into an altercation after mistaking a man for the lead singer of the band.

The report states New Haven cops questioned Kavanaugh about whether he threw ice at the victim, Dom Cozzolino, at an off-campus bar. The White House noted that Kavanaugh wasn't arrested or charged and questioned the incident's relevance.

The man reportedly also had a glass thrown at him by Chris Dudley, a former Yale basketball player and a friend of Kavanaugh's, the report said. The man didn't like being stared at, and aggressively asked them to stop, Ludington said. Ford, who testified before Congress last Thursday, said Kavanaugh assaulted her during a drunken high-school party in the '80s.

Though Cozzolino's identity has not been revealed (beyond his having been in New Haven at the time of the incident), Twitter users have already begun to speculate wildly about him, from estimating his abilities as a fighter to pre-supposing that he was a "townie" from New Haven.

There was considerable confusion last Friday, when Donald Trump ordered a reopened investigation into the "credible allegations" against Brett Kavanaugh. Ludington said he often saw Kavanaugh "staggering from alcohol consumption", and said he often became "belligerent and aggressive" while drinking.

Judge Kavanaugh's behaviour at Yale is under the spotlight, with Prof Ludington and Mr Dudley among several of his classmates who have recently spoken out.

Last week, Kavanaugh told the Senate Judiciary Committee that he drank but was never out of control. For the fact is, at Yale, and I can speak to no other times, Brett was a frequent drinker, and a heavy drinker.

The episode occurred on a September evening in 1985 after Kavanaugh, Ludington and Dudley, attended the UB40 concert. "There were certainly many times when he could not remember what was going on", he said, adding that, "There's an angry streak that comes out when Brett drinks".

Earlier in the week, Swisher gave an interview to the Washington Post, after Kavanaugh denied that he drank excessively. At one point, they were sitting near a man who, they thought, resembled Ali Campbell, the lead singer of UB40.

There was some shouting, and then the police showed up, Ludington said. The report also suggests Ramirez was uncomfortable in Kavanaugh's presence at a wedding 10 years after they graduated.

"Democrats desperately attack Judge Kavanaugh for throwing ice during college", Sanders said on Twitter. "Not one time", Dudley said.
