Relief for Pep Guardiola after Manchester City overcome fear factor

David Silva scored late for Manchester City to end its four-game losing streak in the Champions League with a 2-1 win at Hoffenheim on Tuesday.

However, it took only 43 seconds for Pep Guardiola's side to go behind, with Ishak Belfodil firing through the legs of Ederson after the City backline was split open far too easily.

The Champions League match between Hoffenheim and Manchester City will be broadcast live on TNT.

The tie was a must-win for the visitors, having suffered a 2-1 shock defeat to French side, Lyon, in their group opening tie a fortnight ago.

The hosts come into the game on the back of a 2-1 defeat at home to RB Leipzig on Saturday, a result that leaves them 10th in the Bundesliga standings.

But after eight minutes, City equalised when Leroy Sane found space on the left of the area and his cutback was controlled and fired home by Aguero. The Germans club was able to get a 2-2 draw in their first match in this tournament and the number of goals in each match is something we are seeing often.

David Silva then grabbed the victor for Pep Guardiola's side with just three minutes left in the game as he dispossessed Stefan Posch inside the box and blasted home. "A win in Germany is always so complicated and we will learn so it's a good three points because we fought against a lot of things", he said, before admitting City were tentative before the break.

City turned defence into attack quickly as Silva played Raheem Sterling through but the England forward was denied by the legs of Oliver Baumann, who also made a brilliant save to keep out Aguero's attempt to find the top corner.

City are without many players who are battling injuries.

Pep Guardiola bit his lip about the performance of referee Damir Skomina for fear of another Champions League ban.

There is still plenty of action to follow in Group F and there is now a realistic chance of City winning the group, but will have to work hard against three sides that have already shown how capable they are.
