State Police First Deputy Superintendent Christopher Fiore said the limo ran a stop sign and slammed into a parked SUV and the two pedestrians before crashing to a halt in a ditch. Two pedestrians also were killed.

Questions arose in 2015 about the safety standards governing stretch limousines after four women touring wineries in Long Island were killed when a limo was struck by a pickup driver.

She's certainly not the only one who feels this way; in less than a day, people have donated over $60,000 to help the Jackson family.

The crash happened shortly before 2pm in the town 170 miles north of New York City.

The Steenburgs weren't the only newlywed couple in the vehicle; their friends Erin and Shane McGowan had only been married four months.

"They were all friends", Valerie Abeling, Mrs. McGowan's aunt, told the New York Times. Some of the seats had lap shoulder belts, but it was unclear if all did or if passengers were wearing them.

"The entire GF community is extremely saddened by this incident and we are working closely with the families to provide comprehensive support", Laura Kelly, the company's vice president of global communications, said in a statement.

Twenty people have been killed in a limousine crash in Schoharie County in upstate NY. The Board is investigating the crash, including whether the limo had any mechanical problems.

"That's very striking", Sumwalt said. "They would do anything for you and they were very close to each other and they loved their family", she said.

"If somebody's new to the area or not familiar with the area, I can see how it'd be easy to miss that you're coming down to the T-intersection and going to have to stop at the bottom of it", he said.

Relatives said the limousine was carrying four sisters and their friends to a 30th birthday celebration for the youngest.

"These were young couples, just got married and had their whole lives ahead of them".

Axel Steenburg's brother Rich Steenburg had also been along on the fatal trip, The Times reports.

Recalling a text message Ms McGowan sent to her daughter, who was invited but did not go, Ms Abeling said: "The vehicle appeared in bad condition".

Amy's three older sisters also died in the crash.

The limousine which crashed in upstate NY killing 20 people failed an inspection last month and its driver did not have a suitable licence, according to USA media.

Robert Sumwalt, chief of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), told CNN on Monday that the accident should be "a wake-up call" for limousine safety.

Saturday's accident, which killed two pairs of newlyweds, four sisters from one family and two brothers from another, was the deadliest United States transport crash in almost a decade, according to federal authorities.

Abby Jackson was a middle school special education teacher in Amsterdam, New York, Santabarbara said.

"She was a handsome, sweet soul; he was too", Abeling said.

"It is with heavy hearts that we are sad to announce the Star Spangled Family has lost one of our beloved coaches, Mary Dyson and her husband, Rob", they wrote.

Schoharie is the focus of the investigation into a deadly limo crash that killed 20 people.

"At this time the identities of the victims are not being released pending the autopsy results and notification of the family members", said Fiore.

"More accidents than I can count", said Jessica Kirby, the managing director of the Apple Barrel Country Store and Cafe.

And Barbara Douglas isn't just grieving the deaths of her two nieces. Halse said her sister was a waitress at Shaker Point in Watervliet, and that she and Patrick "were two peas in a pod". They had two daughters: Archer, 4, and Elle, 16 months. At this time, Ford does not have any information about the vehicle involved in this accident, but we are ready to cooperate with agencies who are investigating.
