The 11-time Pro-Bowler didn't waste much time moving up the record books.

Content that he still holds the all-time record of 539 passing touchdowns, Manning is informed that Brees is on pace to break that, too.

The 39-year-old Brees passed Peyton Manning who held the record at 71,940 yards and Brett Favre who was in second place with 71,838 yards.

With the game in hand, Payton subbed Brees off the field after the two-minute warning so the quarterback could have one more interaction with the appreciative crowd.

Naturally, plenty of sports figures took to social media to congratulate Brees on Monday night.

"Also, let this serve as the congratulations for the touchdown record because as you can see, I'm very busy", Manning added. He had a breakout campaign in 2004, but by then the Chargers had drafted Philip Rivers with the fourth overall pick, and in the final game of the 2005 season, Brees suffered a major shoulder injury.

Brees has shredded the National Football League for 18 years, even if his early days in San Diego were rocky at times. And I gotta tell you, it's been the greatest 1,000 days of my life. Behind three touchdowns from Brees, New Orleans cruised to a 43-19 win over the Washington Redskins. Thanks to you, that's over now, and you've ruined that for me.
