Since yesterday, women devotees seeking entry to Sabarimala have clashed with angry protestors wishing to deny them entry, leading to some tense moments in Kerala, especially in Nilakkal and Pamba, which are close to the temple. She was escorted to safety by police.

Congress also staged a sit-in protest at Nilackal.

There were protests at various places in and around the temple town, including one that forced a 45-year-old woman and her family from Andhra Pradesh to abandon their trip to the Ayyappa temple.

Unruly mob took to the streets to prevent women in the age group of 10 to 50 from making their way to worship Lord Ayyappa at Sabarimala temple. The judges ruled the ban against girls and women aged between 10 and 50 as discriminatory and, therefore, unconstitutional.

We demand that the Chief Minister and government of Kerala take immediate action against the agitators who let violent assailants loose on journalists, obstructing them from doing their duty. They also detained activist Rahul Easwar, who is spearheading the protests against the Supreme Court verdict.

Kerala's chief minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, said: "At one point, women had no right to cover their breasts in Kerala and the lower castes were made to stand far away from Brahmins".

Kerala's state government has pledged to uphold the Supreme Court's decision. National TV showed protesters wearing black and saffron turbans running after their cars, violently pounding and kicking the vehicles in a bid to stop them from proceeding to Pamba from Nilakkal on the way to Sabarimala.

"I'm a reporter!" Ramaswamy can be heard yelling in Malayalam as devotees break her car's windshield.

The NewDelhi Television channel reported that some 20 protesters surrounded a bus in which a reporter of The Newsminute channel was traveling and tried to pull her out. After the women devotees being attacked and sent back from entering the temple, now, a woman journalist's vehicle was attacked and blocked by agitators in Kerala's Pathanamthitta. They have also said they were considering mass suicide; one woman who tried to kill herself was stopped by police.

Koshy said she was "appalled" by that line of reasoning.

A video of woman journalist being attacked by the agitators has been shared by news agency ANI on Twitter, that has been gone viral. "There is no question of gender here", she said in a post for NDTV.

Meanwhile, 7 protesters have been arrested for creating ruckus.

Surendran, who reviewed the situation and preparations for the three-month-long Mandalam-Makaravilakku-festival beginning November 17 at Sannidhanam (Sabarimala temple complex), said the government would tackle the agitation politically. We don't mind waiting until we turn 50.

Every year, millions of male devotees trek up a steep hill to visit the shrine, which is believed to be about 800 years old.
