Turkish leader says Khashoggi's killing was planned in advance

Salah bin Jamal Khashoggi - banned from leaving Saudi Arabia - locked eyes with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman as reports emerged that parts of his father's body had been found down a well.

Khashoggi's killing was the first issue the crown prince raised after he strode on to the stage at the Future Investment Initiative conference in Riyadh.

The bill said that President Donald Trump could request exceptions to the arms sale ban if he also submitted a report on a usa investigation into anyone involved in "the murder of journalist and United States permanent resident Jamal Khashoggi".

Asked by a reporter in the White House Oval Office how the Khashoggi killing could have happened, Trump said: "They had a very bad original concept".

Khashoggi, a Washington Post columnist, disappeared on October 2 when he visited the consulate to obtain documents for his upcoming marriage.

The kingdom said early Saturday that Khashoggi had died in a "brawl" in its consulate, without explaining the cause of his death.

Turkey's president Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said that a man, apparently dressed in the journalist's clothes, acted as a possible decoy by walking out of the Saudi consulate on the day of the disappearance.

The Saudi kingdom has provided conflicting accounts of what happened to Khashoggi, a U.S. resident and Washington Post contributor.

Meanwhile, facing global outrage over the killing of Jamal Khashoggi, Saudi officials are now admitting two key points - the latest twist in the kingdom's evolving efforts to explain Khashoggi's death.

The Saudi government said on Tuesday that a 15-member squad was sent to take Khashoggi to a safehouse to try and convince him to go back to Saudi Arabia.

But Sabah, another pro-government newspaper, says Saudi Arabia has yet to give Turkish authorities permission for a search.

Saudi Arabia's explanation has been questioned by leaders in the United States and Europe.

Pompeo said that the Turks have been "very cooperative with us", although he declined to answer a question about whether any USA officials have heard an audio recording of Khashoggi that Turkish officials reportedly have in their possession.

He described it as a "political murder" but stopped short of blaming the crown prince, saying: "Intelligence and security institutions have evidence showing the murder was planned".

Mr Erdogan said he believed King Salman was not aware of the plot to kill Khashoggi.

"There are still questions that need answers" over the premeditated murder, demanding the Saudis explain why the 18 were arrested.
