Who Is Cesar Sayoc? What We Know About Suspicious Package Suspect So Far

The video shows Cesar Sayoc - who has been accused of mailing bombs to Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and even actor Robert De Niro - amid a crowd of angry Trump supporters in February 2017. On Friday, he was identified by authorities as the Florida man who put pipe bombs in small manila envelopes, affixed six stamps and sent them to some of Donald Trump's most prominent critics.

Investigators scouring his social media accounts had found the same spelling mistakes on his online posts - "Hilary" Clinton, Deborah Wasserman "Shultz" - as on the mailings he'd soon be charged with sending.

Additional packages followed the next day, with each delivery creating more unease.

According to court and other public records, Sayoc had a lengthy criminal and court record in Florida.

The Federal Public Defender's Office in NY has already been appointed to represent Sayoc, 56, who was living in his white van.

As the Federal Bureau of Investigation worked around the clock, Americans debated whether the rhetoric of President Trump and some of his supporters had fanned the flames of hate and anti-Semitism.

The FBI confirmed the Booker-directed package in a tweet, saying the new package was "similar in appearance" to others directed at former government officials and others over the past few days that have contained explosive devices.

Sayoc was arrested around 11 am Friday outside an AutoZone vehicle fix shop in Plantation, Florida, about 20 miles from Aventura, officials said. Brennan's went to the NY offices of CNN news network. Sayoc was arrested Friday and charged with crimes in connection with the mail bombs.

"I didn't know this guy was mad insane like this", said Stacy Saccal, manager of the Ultra Gentlemen's Club in West Palm Beach. My feeling was, after one month in office, we didn't need to hear anything more from Trump's mouth - we already knew everything we needed to know about him.

But Scott Meigs, another DJ at the club, had a different experience. The homemade bombs "are not hoax devices", Wray stressed on Friday.

One law enforcement official said the investigation came together less than 24 hours before the announcement, with a preliminary DNA match first and the fingerprint match coming sometime Friday morning. "I just figured he was passionate about the upcoming elections".

Sayoc has not been formally indicted yet and defendants in federal cases generally don't indicate if they plan to fight the charges - or even enter a preliminary "not guilty" plea - until later in the proceedings.

Reporters gather in front of the AutoZone store where Cesar Sayoc Jr., 56, was arrested.

"I think that everybody on the Democratic side would look at that shooter of Congressman Scalise and absolutely condemn his action, him and anyone associated with him", Steyer said, referring to the shooting of House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., during a congressional baseball practice previous year.
