A crane salvages the wreckage of a bus after it plunged off a bridge into the Yangtze River in China's southwestern Chongqing early

A fist fight between a woman passenger and a driver caused a bus to plunge from a bridge into the mighty Yangtze River in southwest China, killing at least 13 people, police said on Friday.

A 10-second clip from the on-board camera released by Chongqing police showed a female passenger yelling at the male driver while he was steering, shortly after 10 a.m. on Sunday.

A crane salvages the wreckage of a bus after it plunged off a bridge into the Yangtze River in China's southwestern Chongqing early on November 1, 2018.

Authorities ultimately blamed the 42-year-old bus driver for not following safety protocols but found that both the passenger and the driver had broken the law and endangered public safety.

Police in China released dashcam footage of the fatal bus crash. However, Liu did not get off and later asked the driver to stop the bus when she realized she missed her destination.

As she continued to assault him, the driver swerved into oncoming traffic and hit a auto before breaking through the crash barrier and plunging into the Yangtze River, the longest river in Asia.

Thirteen bodies have been pulled out of the river, but two remain missing.

The video shows the driver and the passenger attacking each other as the vehicle turns into the opposite lane, hits the guardrail and falls off a bridge over the Yangtze River and into the water.

A police statement said a female passenger started quarrelling with the driver after she missed her stop.

The driver turned his head to face her several times in the argument. The driver took his right arm off the steering wheel and fought back.

The driver then hastily steered to the left, sending the bus out of control. A total of 15 people were on board the bus.
