Polls close in Georgia as governor race comes down to the wire

Georgia Dems accused of ‘hacking voting system’ blame Rep rival for ‘power abuse

Abrams and the state Democratic party swiftly rejected the allegations, claiming there was "never a hack" and declaring it was a feeble attempt to "suppress the vote". It also came shortly after a federal judge ruled that Georgia must relax voting restrictions that could prevent more than 3,000 people from casting ballots in Tuesday's poll.

David Cross, however, an attorney who has been involved in cybersecurity-related litigation against the Georgia Secretary of State's office, said he was also alerted to the potential vulnerabilities by the same individual who contacted the Georgia Democratic Party.

Candice Broce, a spokesperson for the Georgia Secretary of State's Office, told CNN: "We have notified Secretary Kemp of this lawsuit".

In Georgia, critics have drawn attention to Kemp's dual role as candidate for governor and supervisor of the state's elections, in his capacity as Georgia secretary of state.

Oprah Winfrey campaigned with Abrams last week.

The Peach State's race for governor is in the national spotlight, and President Trump made it clear Sunday, he has Kemp's back, and he expects Georgia to stay a red state.

At her first campaign stop of the day in Savannah, Abrams slammed Kemp as a "bald-faced liar" who abused his powers as the sitting secretary of state when he suggested over the weekend, without offering evidence, that the Georgia Democratic Party tampered with the state's online voter database.

The Democrats, however, condemned the accusation, charging Kemp with a conflict of interest and accusing the Republican nominee of slander ahead of the vote.

The Georgia's governors race has been fraught with a race-laden debate over ballot access and voter suppression.

"If this report is accurate, it is a massive vulnerability", wrote the official, Sara Tindall Ghazal. I just want to say, Jesus don't like ugly", Oprah said in an Instagram video captioned, "The antidote to Hate...

One of those experts, University of MI computer scientist Matthew Bernhard, told the AP that anyone with access to an individual voter's personal information could alter that voter's record in the system.

Efforts to reach PCC for comment have not been successful. The official declined to say if the agency was investigating.

But some machines across the state had technical problems Tuesday, resulting in long lines and one precinct's voting hours being extended, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Kemp has also been accused of failing to secure Georgia's voting system by allowing hackers to steal private data of six million registered voters in 2015.

His office made headlines again previous year after security experts disclosed a gaping security hole that wasn't fixed until six months after it was first reported to election authorities.

The plaintiffs, registered Georgia voters, have been identified as LaTosha Brown, Jennifer N. Ide, Katharine Wilkinson, Candace Fowler and Chalis Montgomery. The state is in the planning process for upgrading its voting systems.
