Head coach Brian Kelly's squad has wins over No. 4 MI (24-17), No. 19 Northwestern (31-21), No. 20 Syracuse (36-3) and No. 24 Pittsburgh (19-14).

The top three teams are unchanged with Alabama ranked first followed by Clemson and Notre Dame. However, some teams are still playing for their 6th win to secure a potential bowl bid, while other losing teams are playing the rivalry game as their bowl game looking to stick it to their rival.

In the spirit of making lemonade from the boring lemons we've been handed these last few week (in the CFP rankings department, of course; there's been plenty of fun elsewhere), let's see what each real playoff contender must do to reach the final four if the universe acts in a relatively normal way, i.e. most of the favorites win.

The Sooners may not have moved up, but staying ahead of other one-loss teams seems to show the committee is impressed by the Oklahoma offense, which ranks No. 1 in the country in most categories and unphased by a discouraging defensive performance against Kansas. Rivalry week has a history of major upsets that throw the College Football Playoff rankings into chaos but the only big change will come if Ohio State upsets MI.

Notre Dame, fresh off its big win over Syracuse, heads to Los Angeles to face Southern California (5-6), which Saturday handed UCLA and Chip Kelly their third win of the year. Notre Dame 4. MI 5. Even so, both of the opponents of Georgia and USF have a respectable 7-4 record. No. 7 LSU and No. 8 Washington State also stand firm.

"We spent considerable time talking about UCF and Ohio State", committee chair Rob Mullens told ESPN on Tuesday night. The victor will play No. 18 Utah (8-3) in the Pacific-12 title game a week later.

Why didn't Washington State jump LSU?
