Is it legal for tear gas to be used against migrants?

Donald Trump Threatens to Close US Border With Mexico"Permanently

U.S. President Donald Trump has raised alarm for weeks about a caravan of Central American migrants as it approached the United States, with its members planning to apply for asylum on reaching the United States.

News pictures showing children fleeing tear gas prompted sharp criticism from some lawmakers and charities.

The tweet comes as 42 migrants were arrested on the United States side of the Mexico border, according to a San Diego Sector Border Patrol official.

Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen, briefs the media on election interference, at the White House, on August 2, 2018 in Washington, D.C. Nielsen has said that the U.S. will not tolerate any "lawlessness" at the U.S. -Mexico border.

Mexican authorities have said 500 migrants were involved in the attempts to storm the border.

As migrants tried to cross the border, authorities on the USA side used tear gas to disperse them.

"Most of them are adult males".

If they enter the United States, legally or illegally, they have a right to seek asylum. "We launched tear gas into the area, which then caused the group to disperse, and we were able to get control of it", Judd said.

The ACLU claims the Trump administration has escalated the border crisis by restricting the legal options available to people seeking asylum and turning migrants away at the official ports of entry.

He tweeted: "Mexico should move the flag waving Migrants, many of whom are stone cold criminals, back to their countries".

Later, Trump told reporters at an event in MS that he would close the border if migrants "charge" the barrier. "Congress, fund the WALL!"

The scene was reminiscent of the 1980s and early 1990s when large groups of migrants rushed vehicle lanes at San Ysidro and overwhelmed Border Patrol agents in nearby streets and fields.

Senior officials of the incoming Mexican government are meeting on Sunday to discuss the plan, according a person familiar with the matter.

Video clips posted on Twitter showed crowds of migrants dashing across a shallow concrete riverbed toward the United States.

USA lawmakers face a deadline to approve funding for the federal government by December 7. Despite Trump's promise to protect Christians and their values, some suggested the president hasn't done a good job of defending the core Christian value of welcoming the stranger.

In Tijuana, hundreds of caravan members including women and children protested peacefully.

The US Government has defended its response to use tear gas after left-wing critics in the country said it was an over-the-top response.

Democratic lawmakers and immigrant rights groups blasted the border agents' Sunday tactics.

Like other federal law enforcement officers, Border Patrol agents are allowed to use force if they think they are under attack.

Schatz also reportedly sent but eventually deleted a tweet asking if tear gas was "consistent with the Conventions on Chemical Weapons"?

McAleenan said hundreds - perhaps more than 1,000 - people attempted to rush vehicle lanes at the San Ysidro crossing.
