The Internet Cries Sexism Over Inappropriate Joke Martin Solveig Made During Award Show Matthew Meadow

French DJ Martin Solveig on Monday night, December 4 sparked social media outrage after asking Norway worldwide Ada Hegerberg to dance on stage moments after being crowned victor of the female Ballon d'Or award.

Murray took to social media to slam Martin Solveig after he asked Norwegian footballer Ada Hegerberg if she knew how to perform the raunchy dance move - an example of "the ridiculous sexism that still exists in sport". "This was a joke, probably a bad one, and I want to apologise for the one I may have offended, sorry about that".

The co-host of the Ballon d'Or ceremony asked the Norwegian worldwide and Lyon's forward Ada Hegerberg to twerk on stage after she became the first female victor ever in this prestigious award ceremony.

"I explained to @AdaStolsmo the buzz and she told me she understood it was a joke".

SHE'S scored 41 goals in as many games in the Champions League, on her way to winning the inaugural Ballon d'Or for women.

Hegerberg, who helped her club win the Women's Champions League last season, looked uncomfortable and responded,"No".

"I didn't feel it was like that at all to be honest and I am sad if people thought about the situation like that", she said. The other is Martin Solveig.

Ada Hederberg was asked to twerk during her Ballon d'Or acceptance ceremony. I'd imagine something to do with football.

Andy Murray also wrote while condemning the co-host and his mentality "And to everyone who thinks people are overreacting and it was just a joke... it wasn't". Though Solveig later apologised to Hagerberg and "all those who may have been offended", twitter did not hold back in calling out the sexism on stage. "Most importantly, congratulations to Ada".

In Paris to collect her Ballon d'Or at a gala on Monday, Hegerberg told The Associated Press she has no plans to reconsider her decision taken to preserve her "authenticity and my values, as a person, as a footballer".

"It is a huge step for women's football and the work you have put down is such an important thing for women's football and together we will make a difference".

Luka Modric won the Men's Ballon d'Or award on the same night, ending the decade long dominance of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
