BREAKING Mueller Releases Memo Detailing Flynn's 2017 FBI Interview

"How does this make any sense at all?" he asked.

Herridge asked whether Comey thought the FBI's reputation has "taken a hit" over the past number of months, to which Comey said President Trump "and his acolytes have lied about [the FBI] constantly".

Republican Trump has called the Russian Federation investigation by Special Counsel Robert Mueller a "witch hunt" and on Sunday on Twitter labeled his own former personal lawyer Michael Cohen a "rat" for cooperating with prosecutors.

Democrats have also railed against Comey over his handling of the investigation during the 2016 presidential campaign into Hillary Clinton's use of a private email address and server when she was the secretary of state. "People who know better, including Republican members of this body, have to have the courage to stand up and speak the truth, not be cowed by mean tweets or fear of their base".

Trump had lashed out at his estranged former attorney and the FBI in a series of tweets that blasted the Russian Federation investigation.

Comey testified for almost six hours Monday, in addition to the six-hour closed-door discussion he had with panel members earlier this month. That's silliness. And as far has hurting the FBI's reputation, I hope not.

"Republicans used to understand that actions of a President matter, that words of a President matter and the truth matters. Where are those Republicans today?"

They haven't yet said what they plan to do to summarize their findings in the yearlong investigation into the FBI and Justice Department.

Asked about the president calling Cohen a "rat", Comey said it undermined the rule of law.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller on Monday night released a memo detailing then-national security adviser Michael Flynn's 2017 interview with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Mr Cohen was sentenced to three years' prison last week for crimes including orchestrating hush payments to women in violation of campaign laws before the 2016 election.

The interviews with Comey and Lynch are likely to be among the last for the Republican-led investigation, as incoming Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler, D-New York, has already made clear he has no interest in continuing the Republican FBI probe once Democrats take control of the House. A transcript of the second interview will also be released.

"My recollection was he was - the conclusion of the investigators was he was obviously lying, but they saw none of the normal common indicia of deception: that is, hesitancy to answer, shifting in seat, sweating, all the things that you might associate with someone who is conscious and manifesting that they are being - they're telling falsehoods", Comey said.
