DPRK is the acronym for the North's formal name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

On Monday, North Korea's outward-facing state media published a statement attributed to the Institute for American Studies (IAS), a research institute under the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Discussions over the denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula gained momentum after the Singapore meeting between Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

The White House, however, has given no hint that it is ready to lift the measures.

Pyongyang says it should be rewarded for steps already taken since Kim and President Donald Trump made a vague promise to work toward the "complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula" at their June 12 summit in Singapore.

Kim was accompanied by senior party officials, the KCNA said, though it did not specify who joined his visit to the mausoleum where the bodies of the leader's father and the country's founder, Kim Il-sung, are enshrined.

North Korea threatened Sunday to kill any progress toward denuclearization if the Trump administration continues to increase sanctions pressure and criticize human rights abuses by leader Kim Jong-un's regime.

Uncertainty over the talks, however, has risen in recent months amid ongoing sanctions pressure from Washington - pressure that repeatedly has triggered angry rhetoric from Pyongyang.

North Korea's sharp rebuke came after the United States said last week it had introduced sanctions on three North Korean officials, including a top aide to Kim, for alleged human rights abuses.

It remains to be seen how the development will fully impact the denuclearization diplomacy.

Trump said in a news conference after the midterm elections he expects to meet with Kim sometime early next year. "I always reply by saying we are in no hurry".

According to news reports, the North Korea has praised the US President Donald Trump over his "willingness" and efforts made to improve relations with Pyongyang, but however, has said the state department of the US was "bent on bringing the DPRK-US relations back to the status of past year which was marked by exchanges of fire". "We are doing just fine!"

The statement goes on to complain that the State and Treasury Departments have imposed numerous sanctions against companies, individuals, and ships belonging to Russia, China, and other allies by "fabricating pretexts of all hues such as money laundering, illegal transactions through ship-to-ship transfer and cyber-attack".
