Surviving R. Kelly also dominated social media, ranking as the #1 most social primetime program across Broadcast and Cable for January 3, excluding sports, according to Nielsen Social Content Ratings.

Reeactions have poured in as well from celebrities who felt Lifetime was doing the right thing by shedding light on a dark past that has been shrouded in mystery up until this time.

However, the singer also spoke candidly about the allegations against Kelly, which have always been a part of the embattled performer's controversial legacy.

Martinez was just 17 when she and a girlfriend spotted Kelly roaming around a Florida shopping mall, and they nearly didn't believe their eyes, she says. Several big names such as John Legend and Wendy Williams appear in the series, and dozens of women, including Kelly's ex-wife Andrea Lee and former backup singer Stephanie "Sparkle" Edwards, are filmed talking about their relationship with Kelly over his career.

"To everyone telling me how courageous I am for appearing in the doc, it didn't feel risky at all", he said in a tweet.

"That's not me because I'm going to speak to anybody and everybody I want to, so when I learned that, I would go out of my way to speak to people, just to tick him off. I thought he was playing", said the Man Behind The Man: Looking from the Inside Out author.

The Lifetime Channel showed the first of the docuseries' three installments, and the bombshell exposé did not disappoint the throngs of people who have developed a hatred for the singer's alleged child sexual abuse. I believe these women'.

The remaining episodes air Friday and Saturday at 9 p.m. ET on Lifetime. These survivors deserved to be lifted up and heard.

A year ago several women came forward claiming Kelly had been running a sex cult, and in May a woman filed a lawsuit against him claiming that he had treated her like a sex slave.

As a reminder, R. Kelly has denied all of the allegations brought against him and has not been convicted of any wrongdoing at this time.

Kelly's lawyer, Brian Nix, fired off a legal letter - obtained by TMZ - warning the network that its "Surviving R. Kelly" documentary is packed with lies.

"We were out on the road with Aaliyah", she said. "The documentary will air as scheduled, starting tonight at 9pm ET/PT".
