Magic mark: Amazon reveals for the first time, how many Alexa-devices are in circulation

The voice-controlled intelligent personal assistant service was first launched in November 2014 and has since been developed so that other companies' devices and services are able to connect to it. Because Siri and Google Assistant come preinstalled on most mobile devices and only some would consider replacing them with either Alexa or Cortana, the global majority is still small.

Rather than building the assistant software and associated hardware into its TVs, Samsung will require an existing Google Home or Amazon Echo device to power voice control. CNET is tracking all the Google Assistant and Alexa announcements out of CES 2019. According to the big G, Google Assistant will soon be on one billion devices around the world. Of course, if you don't have a smart speaker, then the TVs already comes with the Bixby assistant built-in. Obviously, there's also Google's line of smart speakers contributing to the overall figure as well, and Bronstein says the number of Google Home devices in the wild is on the rise. In the same time frame Google Assistant served up over 16 million recipes. It's very likely that many users are using the Google Assistant, indeed Google notes that the number of active users has quadrupled over the past year. There are more than 150 products with Alexa built in, more than 28,000 smart home devices that work with Alexa made by more than 4,500 different manufacturers, and over 70,000 Alexa skills. It's obviously unclear exactly how many active users Google Assistant had in the past, so it is hard to understand the exact degree of growth here. This had been sold out for weeks, said devices in-chief Dave Limp, the technology blog "The Verge".

Samsung has announced that users will be able to control the upcoming QLED TV both through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, as long as they have a device like Amazon Echo or Google Home. Amazon has done well with its two-year head start in the market.
