Tate Martell vs. Justin Fields Who Takes The Reigns At Ohio State

News broke Friday that Georgia phenom freshman Justin Fields was headed to OSU, and that pretty much ends any speculation on whether or not Haskins would return. Martell has already made some interesting comments with regards to Fields, even before it was officially reported that he would be heading to Ohio State.

Here's four impacts Fields' decision to become a Buckeye will affect the Ohio State football program.

If declared eligible, Fields would compete to become Ohio State's starting quarterback in 2019 if Dwayne Haskins declares for the NFL Draft as expected.

However, Georgia did not use Fields in the Sugar Bowl loss against Texas.

Fields was the subject of racially bigoted comments made by a Georgia baseball player during a September 29 win against Tennessee, which led to that player's dismissal from the program after an internal investigation. Multiple sources told The Athletic that things were looking good for Ohio State to land Fields, and given. As Thamel points out, this NCAA rule of an act of egregious behavior at a previous institution would make Fields immediately eligible for the upcoming season. He came to Athens thinking he could beat out Jake Fromm.

He is coming off a season in which he accounted for 54 touchdowns for the Buckeyes. He threw for 328 yards, ran for 266 and had eight combined touchdowns. But the most impressive stat may have been that he wasn't sacked, surprising considering Ohio State's offensive line had been riddled with leaky protection and pre-snap penalties all season.

"Any time you get a win in this league right now, it's something", Michigan State Spartans coach Tom Izzo said.
