Not only did they finish 3-13 and now hold the top pick in the NFL Draft, but they hired former Texas Tech head coach and quarterback guru Kliff Kingsbury to be their new head coach. He stepped down as head coach of the Arizona Cardinals at the end of the 2017 season.

Earlier, the Times reported that Arians was planning to bring most of his coaching staff from the Cardinals to Tampa Bay, including recently fired Jets head coach Todd Bowles as his defensive coordinator.

Bowles earned AP Assistant Head Coach of the Year honors in 2014 before getting the Jets gig.

Arians, who was 49-30-1 in a five-year run in Arizona, would replace Dirk Koetter, who was sacked after two seasons as Tampa's head coach.

Arians, however, reminded Eisen that he's known the embattled Bucs quarterback since he was in high school, when Winston attended one of Arians' football camps, and suggested his Buccaneers team will be centered on the former Florida State star.

Arians is the latest in a line of successors that includes Raheem Morris, Greg Schiano, Lovie Smith and Koetter, who landed the job in 2016 primarily because ownership felt his offensive expertise would accelerate the growth of young quarterback Jameis Winston.

And with the good rapport between he and Leftwich, that should help Tampa Bay's offense get back on track in a big way.

Arians spent the 2018 season in broadcasting. Turnovers and a porous defense were the main culprits. He went 34-14 in his first three seasons at the helm, including a run to the NFC Championship Game in the 2015 season.

The 25-year-old has 75 career turnovers, including 58 interceptions.

But Winston, who's 21-33 as a starter and only led the team to one winning season in four years, has not been a bust. Winston's pocket presence, footwork and decision making must improve under Arians.
