Former Packers coach Mike McCarthy to sit out the 2019 season

Adam Gase will take over as head coach with the New York Jets

Adam Gase will take over as head coach with the New York Jets

In a move that's coming to the surprise of many, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport says Gang Green is hiring former Dolphins skipper Adam Gase as their new head coach.

A reunion between Vance Joseph and the Cincinnati Bengals might not happen after all thanks to the New York Jets.

By all accounts, former Packers coach Mike McCarthy had big-time interest in becoming the Jets' 17th head coach and honestly, why wouldn't he be?

Would Ryan have been a better head coach the second time around had he not taken the Buffalo job five minutes after being fired by the Jets?

The 55-year-old has an overall head coaching record of 125-77-2. Gase left to join John Fox's staff with the Chicago Bears in 2015.

Adam Gase looks on during a game against the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium in September.

The Jets did not have a great 2018 season under Todd Bowles as they went a disappointing 4-12.

Gase replaces Todd Bowles, who was sacked after he went 24-40 in four seasons. Shurmur then served as the Eagles' offensive coordinator from 2013-16 and the Vikings' offensive coordinator in 2017, before the Giants hired him a year ago.

He's got 13 seasons under his belt as a National Football League head coach, all with the Packers.

Gase will work closely with general manager Mike Maccagnan, who was retained by team chairman and CEO Christopher Johnson, to put together a competitive roster around Darnold.
